OPEN PASSPORT: Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp is a man in demand, he has been named "Most powerful Celebrity' by Entertainment Weekly and is currently starring  as a vampire in his latest movie, Dark Shadows.
In Pirates of the Caribbean 4 - On Stranger Tides he headed on location to Puerto Rico, Hawaii and St Ives in Cornwall, UK. The Painted Hall at the Old Royal Navy College, Greenwich, London also served as a location.
He may feel at home in the Caribbean, or at least the movie version of it, or in Wonderland as the Mad Hatter from Tim Burton's adaptation of Lewis Carroll's literary classic Alice in Wonderland and more recently he's been The Tourist with Anjelina Jolie in Venice and filmed the Lone Ranger in New mexico. However, it's France where Johnny lays his hat in real life.M

"France, and the whole of Europe have a great culture and an amazing history. But for me the most important thing about these places is that people there know how to live," he says.

Johnny had a house in the Var department in the south east of France, where he lived with his then partner, Gallic singer and actor Vanessa Paradis and their two children, Lily-Rose, 10 and Jack, 7. He adores the quality of life it affords.  the pair slit in June 2012 but he still has asoft spot for france.

"[It] is so different in France," he says. "There's the possibility of living a simple life. I would never contemplate raising my [son and] daughter in LA. I would never raise any child there."  he said during a recnet interview ,although now it seems he has purchase a house for paradis nadt he children .in LA.

... you know what I do there? Absolutely nothing. I think that's important sometimes.

The  Depp family  previously lived in Plan-de-la-Tour a small village in the Massif des Maures hills, about 15 km northwest of St Tropez and Ste Maxime on the coast. The village is known for its rose wine Johnny appears so taken by the wine in the Plan-de-la-Tour that he even confesses a desire to make his own someday.

"With Vanessa and the kids, we live in a sort of little village and I suppose, for me, it's like being in paradise," he continues. "It's a property of about 30 acres and you know what I do there? Absolutely nothing. I think that's important sometimes."

Depp, it seems, loves the simple life and admits that there were months at a time when he didn't  leave the grounds of his property. "When I wake up, I go look at my garden. I go see if my vegetables are growing, if certain flowers have started to bloom," he reveals.

"Acting is my living," he says. "But I don't want to live it. Living in France is the first time I can honestly say I feel at home."
