Shangri-La's new hotel in Doha has been on our radar for a while now; mainly because it will have a helipad balancing atop its awesomely space-age silver-pronged design.Very TLTB!As disgruntled soccer fans will attest Qatar, of which Doha is the capital (but of course you knew that already didn't you)has also been in the news having swiped the 2022 Soccer World Cup from under the noses of countriessome see as more 'deserving' candidates.
STOP PRESS: Actually it looks like this one will be just a beep on our radar for a little longer. Over dinner last night with Shangri-La insiders (at the stunning Altitude restaurant, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney) TLTB learned Doha has now been put back to 2012. However we're looking forward to Shangri-La Hotel Vienna instead. This will be the company's second foray into Europe after the much-heralded opening of the historic Shangri-La Hotel Paris in January (interior designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon).
As the latest desert destination to go for the tourist dollar Doha has a number of other five stars on the rise, a new Mandarin Oriental and a St Regis in West Bay to name but two. However, so far thetwin-towered Shangri-La is our favourite, even if it is delayed (again).
