No. 11, London, England

Originally built by Lord Chelsea on a cricket ground between Buckingham Palace and Knightsbridge in the 19th century Number 11 is part of a line-up of townhouses on Cadogans Lane that was once known as the 'village of palaces'. Are you beginning to get the picture? Owner and creator Paul Davies certainly has. Recently, the interiors were ramped up by a talented team from the Royal College of Art who appear to have channelled all that is best of British through the ages into the 21st Century. Brocades, tassels, chandeliers without going over-the-top foppish, this exclusive hotel and club is as comfy for the leaf tea drinker as for the cigar smoking martini lover. With No. 11 as a base it's easy to OD on London shopping and nightlife. Any excess can be worked out in the gym and the spa later, thank you.
