Billed as a riad, Heure Bleue Palais is more hotel grand with 33 rooms and suites, but it does bring a new level of luxury to this ancient seaside city. Styled as an attempt to bring together the African, Arabian and Colonial civilisations who have inhabited the city's past, the outcome feels like the sort of lush digs Hemingway wouldn't have minded hunkering down in. Some of the activities don't stray far from the theme with cards (think bridge and poker) and a billiard table. However, the hammam and the beauty treatments bring it all back to a more Moroccan base. One of the most relaxing experiences comes with a massage in the glass-enclosed rooftop terrace - the views across the whitewashed city are incredible.
