Luxury Travel Adventures in Africa

Michael Lorentz's passion is sharing Africa's wildlife and wilderness with guests from around the world, facilitating the opportunity for them to experience an extraordinary journey into the wildest places.  It all begins with the planning, when his mode of operation is to try to "understand the travelers' dreams and expectations and ensure that these convert into a reality on the ground'.

Michael has been guiding guests on safari for almost 30 years; navigating the watery wonderland of the Okavango Delta in a mekoro, visiting remote tribes in Ethiopia, climbing Nyiragongo Volcano, tracking gorillas in Bwindi's impenetrable forest or being entranced by the great migration - his aim is to showcase the more unknown corners of Africa and to expose the delicate balance that still exists between nature and mankind.

An accomplished naturalist, published photographer and committed conservationist, Michael provides his guests with a dazzling insight into the intricacies of Africa's wilderness. In the words of a guest, "Michael does not take you for a walk in the African bush; rather he takes you for a walk with it. Until you have experienced the contrast, you won't know what I am talking about. But believe me; it makes - quite literally the world of difference. I saw, heard, smelt, touched and even tasted an Africa that I, a son of the continent, never knew was there."

My most luxurious and adventurous trip:
What is Wild Luxury? For many it's the perfectly presented meal cooked on an open fire, after a day of extraordinary game viewing; or sinking into a bed made with crisp cotton sheets and hearing lion roaring in the distance; or flying low over Africa's myriad landscapes in a helicopter, or having your private guide manage the practicalities of travel, allowing you to indulge yourself in the sense of place. But for me, true luxury is about access - to people, places and experiences that can't simply be bought. THE differentiator between the plethora of 'luxury safaris' on offer and the true journey of discovery lies not in the places you stay but in the guide who leads you.

Luxury is about encouraging big dreams. Navigating the watery wonderland of the Okavango Delta in a mekoro, visiting remote tribes in Ethiopia, climbing Nyiragongo Volcano, tracking gorillas in Bwindi's impenetrable forest or being entranced by the great migration, you will meet the people behind the headlines in the areas we visit, witness never before seen ceremonies, participate in active conservation work and stay in private homes that you won't find on any website.

My favourite place in the world:
My favourite place is of course Africa!! But if I have to be more specific I would say that if I had 5 days left on this Earth, I know I would spend one of them trekking for mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda...

Other great Africa guides: Howard Saunders , Peter Silvester, Nigel PerksAdam Hedges , James Robertson, Sandor Carter
